Microsoft ASP.NET web site

Microsoft ASP.NET Web Site

The www.asp.net web site is Microsoft’s official online resource for its ASP.NET web technology. I joined the administration team in July 2006 as the site’s content manager, responsible for publishing content provided by Microsoft. As the web site had no content management system, I created a simple application named ‘Titan’ to help manage and publish content.

During the first months of 2007 the site underwent a complete redesign. I expanded the Titan application to power virtually all of the web site, excluding the forums, weblogs, control gallery, and legacy applications.

Today Titan is a complete application framework comprising a custom globalization provider, custom navigation provider, custom skinning engine, simple content management system, and much more. The application is proving very successful, and Microsoft’s www.silverlight.net and www.windowsclient.net web sites are earmarked to move to the Titan framework.

To learn more please read the Titan Overview and Titan Evolution PDF documents. Please note that I have already evolved Titan in two of the three ways suggested in the Evolution document, giving each provider its own configurable settings, and replacing the custom server controls with data-bound, templated user controls.
